Basil

Ocimum Basilicum is best known as a cooking spice with deeper roots in India and Egypt than Italy! In Greek Ocimum means “sweet” and basilicum means “royalty”, it would be no surprise that with its sweet yet peppery flavor, India fell in love with it way before we ever came to know it as we do now. Basil grows great in a pot on a windowsill or a garden bed in full sun. Over centuries, Basil has been used in salves for Royal ceremonies. Basil is well known for comforting an upset stomach, relieves mild anxiety and depression, nervous irritability, and fatigue. We know it best in Spaghetti and Lasagne!
