Comfrey

Symphytum officinal

Comfrey is known as the rapid healer. It is also referred to as knitbone and so unique in its ability to repair fractures and restore muscles and tissues in the body through its constituent allantoin, which promotes muscle cells, bone, and cartilage. It is applied through the skin as a poultice or bandage wrap to the area that needs rapid healing. If there is a wound, clean it thoroughly before applying Comfrey otherwise the debris will get trapped in and could cause infection. We recommend using Thyme “tea” as a natural antiseptic to wash the site before applying Comfrey. Comfrey is used topically and drinking it is not recommended. It does contain an additional alkaloid, pyrrolizidine, which in studies conducted in years past has caused liver damage in rats. For this reason, we have labeled this as a topical herb only. Make a “tea” and wrap your bandage in the tea. apply the soaked bandage over the area that needs repair. Remember: wash and clean your wound area first.
