Lemon Balm is in the mint family. The word that comes to mind with Lemon balm is restorative. Lemon balm is antiviral, antibacterial, an antidepressant, antihistamine, antispasmodic. It not only uplifts and relaxes the body in the presence of depression, and stress it has the ability to restore mental state quickly. Lemon balm is a favorite for antiviral issues such as cold sores, and herpes simplex and is wonderful for relaxing the body during a bout of shingles. It is good for the kidneys, urinary, and digestive tract. Lemon balm will ease spasms and digestive discomforts such as gas and indigestion. Lemon balm makes an excellent tea hot or iced. As an iced tea, it is very refreshing in the summer heat. The essential oil is Melissa. It is wonderful for immediately calming anxiety.
