Meadowsweet

Stories passed down through history report that in 1830, Bayer took the meadowsweet plant and extracted what they thought was the healing component for acid reflex – when many of the factory workers began getting sick with the yearly cold and missing work Bayer noticed they were getting better quickly and fevers, aches and pains were vanishing. When asked what they were taking they showed the discarded herb that contained high amounts of salicylates and Bayer aspirin was born. The only problem is in extracting the constituents of the plant -just the salicylates alone caused gastric distress. It has to be coated to keep from gastric bleeding and upset – but meadowsweet as an herb does not have the commercial chemical aspirin side effects in fact- meadowsweet actually helps with gastric upset! It is used in place of aspirin for discomfort, for acid reflux and digestive repair, and as a tea for an eye wash for burning and itching eyes. We use meadowsweet in our Head-to-toe oil formula for painful discomfort.
